detail work

The difference is in the details…

Look for clarity of details as pictured. A goldsmith should be proud of the smallest details of their work.

Look for thickness and durability of metal. Sometimes when things are cheaper, they are just that…cheap.

Look for balance, scale and proportion. These are three basic (but often overlooked) design principles. Pieces that don't look quite right or are "close" are essentially wrong and are lacking a sound design.

Think of safety. Pieces worn on the neck and near the face should not have protrusions or sharp edges. Chains should have "safety" or breakaway clasps that will give way before cutting in event of an accident.

There is a method; a way things should be done. Your jewelry should be created by a designer who has solid artistic and mechanical training. Wouldn't you rather buy a piece that will hold not only its beauty but also its value?
